ebanon is suffering from a series of nationwide power outages which have affected critical infrastructure, including Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport and the Port of Beirut. The southern Lebanon-based Zahrani Power Plant - the nation's main source of power - had to shut down after running out of fuel.
Electricity of Lebanon (EDL) has confirmed that all Lebanese regions have been affected by the closure of the Zahrani Power Plant - the effects have been most profound on facilities such as hospitals, prisons, wastewater treatment plants, and drinking water pumping stations. The closure of the plant reflects a major escalation in the continuing electrical crisis in Lebanon, which has been exacerbated by regional warfare.
Once fuel supplies have been restored EDL hopes to gradually restore the grid supply to near-normal levels. Lebanon previously used to generate 1,600–2,000 megawatts of electricity every day, but the current fuel crisis and infrastructure damage has significantly reduced this amount.
