Genesal Energy has designed, manufactured and commissioned an emergency generator set to resolve a need for backup solution at a major wastewater treatment plant in the Balearic Islands. The genset designers have provided Ibiza’s Water Treatment Plant with a reliable, low noise emitting emergency back-up power, in the available space and within the delivery deadline, reports the company.

This was a Turnkey project conducted by personnel from Genesal's Engineering Department. The installation was characterised by the following points:

· An AMF-operation generator set capable of supplying power to the pumping system among other loads. A 1650 kVA ESP generator was the choice for these requirements.

· The relatively small dimensions of the room and the noise emission requirements meant the set was designed as compact as possible and fitted with -30 dB(A) air inlet and outlet silencers creating the perfect balance between cooling and soundproofing.

· A 2000 litres fuel tank for greater autonomy.

· A busbar capable of taking twelve 240mm2 conductors per phase.

· Given the complexity of this installation, Genesal undertook the whole commissioning. Company engineers built the set in its room with air silencers and hoppers and mounted the exhaust silencers and chimney outside of the building.

The Ibiza Wastewater Treatment Plant improves wastewater management, ensuring that discharges meet environmental standards and protect nearby coastal waters for the Island and its inhabitants. The presence of desalination plants and wastewater treatment facilities helps reduce reliance on new desalination plants, promoting a more sustainable water management approach.  These facilities play a vital role in maintaining the island's water resources and supporting its ecological health.

Ibiza’s permanent population is estimated at 163,657 people.  During the summer, Ibiza experiences a significant influx of tourists, with approximately 3.7 million visitors arriving annually, particularly between June and August. In 2024 alone, the island welcomed around 3.28 million tourists, making it one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations.
