his month Rolls-Royce/MTU has supplied 2 x mtu 12V4000 – 1,700 kVA • 3 x mtu 20V4000 – 3,300 kVA diesel generators forming a large-scale emergency power solution for a data centre customer in Norway.
Designed for maximum reliability, special features of the project include: a dedicated configuration with two generators for cooling, two for data, and one swing generator for backup power; all units have been encapsulated in modular, noise-insulated sandwich panels to meet regulatory requirements; ventilation has been provided with sound baffles and motorised dampers for effective noise control; exhaust silencing was provided, mounted on the roof with elevated pipes; and the equipment was mounted on belly tanks for 48-hour operation at full load.
Norway enjoys a unique position as a leading sustainable data centre location, which has become particularly attractive to data centre companies seeking to lower their carbon footprint. The country, alongside other Nordic countries, produces a surplus of low-cost renewable power, creating the ideal conditions for data centre success. Seeking to continue its growth in a energy-saving way, the country’s data centre market is committed to business development as it seeks to serve the local communities and provide jobs at its facilities. It is also keen to continue partnering with leading companies in the industry who are hoping to expand across Europe sustainably.
