Wärtsilä 34SG gas engine is providing a cleaner energy solution for the City of Farmington in USA. Wärtsilä will supply the generating equipment for an 18 MW power plant expansion in New Mexico. The power plant will utilize reciprocating internal combustion engine (RICE) technology and operate on natural gas. The project aligns with the global trend towards cleaner, lower-carbon fuels.
The engine choice for this project is the highly agile and flexible Wärtsilä 34SG gas engine. This four-stroke, spark-ignited engine is also capable of operating on biogas, synthetic methanol and hydrogen blend.
"This project is another great example of RICE technology fulfilling important needs of U.S. utility customers such as firm dispatchable capacity with superior flexibility,” said Jon Rodriguez, PE, Director, Engine Power Plants, North America at Wärtsilä Energy.
