600 kW KOHLER ENERGY genset is now operating at the Sydney Harbour West wastewater treatment plant. Delivered in late 2022, the 600REOZVB, 60 Hz Industrial Diesel Generator has a Standby Range (kW/kVA) 485-600/606-750 and a Prime Range (kW/kVA) of 485-555/606-694. It has a Frequency of 60 Hz and a Speed of 1800 RPM. The engine is a Volvo with an Alternator Type Brushless, Permanent-Magnet Pilot Exciter. The T60 Hz generator set meets NFPA 110, Level 1, when equipped with the necessary accessories and installed per NFPA standards. The generator set accepts rated load in one step. There is a Kohler designed controller for guaranteed system integration and remote communication. A low coolant level shutdown feature prevents overheating while an integral vibration isolation eliminates the need for under-unit vibration spring isolators. An electronic, isochronous governor delivers precise frequency regulation. There are multiple circuit breaker configurations and there is a 186 mph wind load rating on a robust aluminum enclosure.

The alternator on this genset is especially interesting. The pilot-excited, permanent-magnet (PM) alternator provides superior short-circuit capability. It has NEMA MG1, IEEE, and ANSI standards compliance for temperature rise and motor starting. The unit is capable of sustained short-circuit current of up to 300% of the rated current for up to 10 seconds and enables down stream circuit breakers to trip without collapsing the alternator field. The alternator offers superior voltage waveform from a two-thirds pitch stator and skewed rotor and digital solid-state, volts-per-hertz voltage regulator with ±0.25% no-load to full-load regulation. The alternator is a brushless model alternator with brushless pilot exciter for excellent load response.
