Rolls-Royce has supplied seven MTU Series 4000 DS 3600 diesel generators to power Kuwait International Airport’s new Terminal 2, ensuring reliable energy supply for key airport facilities as part of Kuwait Vision 2035. Rolls-Royce is represented in Dubai by AGMC (Arabian Gulf Mechanical Centre). AGMC is the official dealer for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Dubai, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates.
Each 20-cylinder unit is engineered for high-load performance and extreme reliability- even in ambient temperatures up to 55°C.
These backup-power systems will secure critical infrastructure including the catering facility and central energy systems, supporting the airport’s expansion under Kuwait Vision 2035. With scalable capacity for up to 50 million passengers annually, uninterrupted power is non-negotiable.
“We are proud that our products ensure the stable operation of critical infrastructure at the airport—even in this region with its extreme environmental conditions,” Salim El Banna, our Country Sales Manager UAE, Bahrain, Iraq & Kuwait, tells MEGSA. "Our mtu gensets are trusted worldwide - over 85,000 installations across airports, data centres, hospitals and industrial plants. Our diesel and gas gensets, combined with dynamic UPS systems, ensure seamless operation under the harshest conditions."
Commissioning is set for the next few months of 2026 and mtu reports that it is 'committed to supporting Limak and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in building one of the Gulf’s most advanced aviation hubs'.
The MTU Series 4000 DS 3600 diesel generators stand out for their enhanced performance and reliability. They are based on the MTU Series 4000 engines from Rolls-Royce (over 50,000 models sold) and have delivered more than 250 million operating hours of resilient, high-power quality energy over the last 25 years. These generators are designed for mission-critical applications and can provide power within seconds, exceeding the industry average. They are also capable of operating on synthetic paraffinic diesel fuels, including biofuel hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), and can be fuelled with a 10% hydrogen blend soon. The Series 4000 engines are known for their fast-start capability and one-step load acceptance, making them ideal for emergency and mission-critical systems.
