inally completed by Ameresco and decarbonisation services provider Luminace, the Coventry Landfill Solar project in Rhode Island, USA, is considered a significant achievement in renewable energy development. It features a 5.74 MW solar array that is expected to generate approximately 7.7 million kWh annually, enough to power more than 1,100 homes.
The project is designed to reduce CO2 emissions by 3,760 tons each year and is expected to generate lease revenue, taxes, and reimbursement for landfill cap maintenance, with total benefits estimated at about $4.4 million over the initial lease period. This project demonstrates how underutilized land can be transformed into productive clean-energy infrastructure, contributing to local job creation and economic activity while enhancing energy security and resiliency for communities across the country.
Developed on underutilised land, the project delivers $4.4 million in economic benefits to the Town of Coventry over the lease term through taxes, lease revenue, and landfill maintenance reimbursements, underscoring how renewable energy can repurpose challenging sites for clean power and local prosperity.
Jonathan Mancini, Senior Vice President of Solar and BESS Development at Ameresco. Luminace, as project owner, comments:
“The Coventry Landfill Solar project is a testament to our commitment to innovative renewable energy solutions.”
