NEW GENSETS OFFER CONVERSION TO HYDROGEN FUEL AFTER 2022

olls-Royce  has launched its MTU Series 500 for power generation in 2021. The new unit offers power outputs of 250, 360 and 550 kW and boasts peak efficiencies for the genset of up to 42.6%. R-R says that gas gensets and cogeneration plants can be ordered on the basis of six-, eight- and 12-cylinder inline engines for the 50 Hz market; in cogeneration applications, generating electricity and heat, efficiencies of around 90% can be achieved. In the 60 Hz market, the units will be introduced from mid-2021.  Initially offered for operation with natural gas and also for biogas, the 500 series is also H2-ready, which means that the engines can be converted to hydrogen operation from 2022 onwards.
