oltfang, a leading provider of green battery storage systems for industrial, commercial, and large-scale storage applications, has officially opened its new production facility, “Voltfang Future Fab,” in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The production facility manufactures high-performance, energy-dense storage solutions. By the end of 2026, it is scheduled to produce 250 MWh per year, and by the end of 2030, 1 GWh per year.
The new site in the TRIWO Technopark Aachen covers 6,000 square meters and is located in the former production halls of electric car manufacturer Next.e.GO. Since production began in April, Voltfang has been manufacturing high-performance energy storage systems from second-life and surplus batteries from the European automotive industry. This resource-saving use of existing batteries reduces dependence on Asian supply chains and also strengthens local value creation. Voltfang’s production capacity has increased fivefold in the past year. The company is thus making an important contribution to the energy transition and to the long-term competitiveness of Germany as an industrial location.
Hendrik Wüst, Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, comments:
“Voltfang shows how sustainable innovations can provide real impetus and contribute to the competitiveness of our industry. With the opening of Europe’s largest second-life battery factory, Voltfang is setting a milestone for a sustainable energy system. Used batteries are being turned into powerful storage systems that increase security of supply and reduce critical dependencies on global supply chains. Such innovations strengthen structural change in the Rhineland mining area and create new prospects for the region.”
David Oudsandji, co-founder and CEO of Voltfang tells EURO POWER NEWS:
“The market for battery storage is growing dynamically, and Voltfang is actively shaping this growth. The opening of this manufacturing centre is an important step for Voltfang and a strong signal for the future of energy supply in Germany and Europe. We are delighted to welcome so many partners, supporters, and companions here in Aachen today. Our vision is to develop high-performance battery storage systems for German and European industry and to manufacture them here in Germany. With the new plant, we are not only scaling up our operations, but also making an important contribution to the economic, ecological, and social transformation of the lignite region in North Rhine-Westphalia.”
