ew gas engines will supply electricity for the El Mutúniron ore mine in Bolivia – one of the largest of its kind in the world – on the border with Brazil.  The highly efficient, single-stage turbocharged stationary gas engine, the 35/44G, MAN now brings the benefits of gas engines to power and cogeneration plants with electrical outputs up to 200 MW, a category previously dominated by gas turbines.  The localized power plant solution guarantees the flexible, reliable and independent supply of electricity at all times. Thanks to their high reaction speed, these engines have been designed to reach their full output in less than five minutes and can handle quick load changes effortlessly. Estimates indicate that there could be over 40 billion tonnes of iron ore in an area of 75 square kilometres in size. The site also processes ore into steel onsite, which requires large-scale industrial machinery with high energy needs, such as blast furnaces and rolling mills.
