E Vernova’s Gas Power business has won orders for four GE 6F.03 gas turbines for energy plants delivering power and heat to Yangjiang City in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in China, to help boost the megapolis’ transition from coal to gas power generation. GE’s 6F gas turbine offer superior performance, reliability, and flexibility typically associated with larger power plants. The 6F.03 gas turbine is said to pack big power into a small package, offering durability and flexibility for harsh, remote, or floating power environments. Whether it be for 50 or 60 Hz, the 6F gas turbine can maintain enhanced output and exhaust energy for combined cycle and CHP performance. The 6F.03 offers segment-leading 32,000-hour combustion and hot gas path inspection intervals, reports the manufacturer.
The first order for two units was signed with Royal Golden Eagle Group’s East Asia Power (Yangjiang) Co for its Yangjiang High-Tech Zone natural gas CHP plant: and two additional units have been purchased by Beijing Energy International Holding Co) for the Yangjiang Yangxi natural gas CHP project. The four units together are expected to deliver 480 MWe once operational in early 2025.
China aims to achieve a carbon emissions peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. It has committed to reducing coal’s share of its energy mix and expediting the building of efficient gas-powered combined heat and power plants – natural gas-fired generators have the lowest carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of all fossil power generation fuels.
RGE is an integrated industrial group that is developing a liquefied natural gas receiving terminal in Yangjiang to receive up to 2.8 million tons of LNG annually. The new plant, powered by two GE 6F.03 gas turbines, is expected to support the Yangjiang High-Tech Zone Natural Gas business hub’s energy needs, while helping to reduce the area’s reliance on coal power. The first unit is planned to achieve commercial operation in December 2024, while the second in the first quarter of 2025. The contract includes a service agreement for the next 15 years.
BJEI, an international energy investment company, ordered the two GE 6F.03 gas turbines for its Yangjiang Yangxi Natural Gas Cogeneration project. The new plant will supply up to 240 MWe which will help accelerate the construction of the Zhongshan Torch (Yanghxi) Industrial Transfer Park of Yangjiang.
