rgonne National Laboratory & Caterpillar are co-operating on ways to improve efficiency and reduce emissions in heavy-duty diesel engines. Engineers are working to improve the fuel efficiency of heavy-duty diesel engines while minimizing pollution to reduce energy consumption and ensure the sustainability of these industries in the future. To that end, researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Ill., joined forces with Caterpillar Inc. Taking advantage of Argonne’s high-performance computing resources, researchers developed a potential piston design for Caterpillar’s engines which could improve fuel efficiency while reducing harmful emissions.
