n recent years, Saudi Arabia has been undertaking large and prestigious projects in many areas, especially involving infrastructure. Teksan has played a key role in the country’s transformation process by providing energy solutions for important infrastructure projects in the Kingdom. Teksan is providing 90 MW energy solution support with 60 generators to an ongoing infrastructure project in Saudi Arabia at five different sites where generator planning and commissioning continue.  The equipment provided includes items such as generator sets, switchgear containers, transformers, synchronisation Container and NGRs.

The NGR is the Neutral Grounding Resistor, which is used in the electrical system to protect the transformer and generator. As the name suggests, the neutral ground resistor connects the neutral point of a transformer or generator to the ground.

A Neutral Ground Resistor (NGR) is made using materials such as Stainless Steel and Nickel Chromium Alloy (NiCr). These materials have a stable resistance which does not change with temperature. Porcelain and ceramic are used to support the resistor elements.

The primary purpose of an NGR (neutral ground resistor) is to limit the ground fault current that can flow in the event of a fault in the system. This helps prevent excessive currents and associated damage to equipment during a ground fault.

The main components in a typical generator container include the following items:

-ENGINE: Perkins engine with tropical radiator, Engine Model: 4012 46 TAG3A

- ALTERNATOR: Leroy Somer, Alternator Model: LSA 50.2 VL10, Low Voltage

-NGR

- Control panel (ComAp)

-Switchgear Panel (3200A)

-Exhaust Silencer

-Louvres

  The Teksan Switchgear Container

components comprise:

-Schneider SM6 36 Metal Clad

-NGR Control Panel

-AC/DC distribution panel

-Fire extinguishing System

-Emergency lighting System

-Air Conditioners

  The Synchronization Container

components feature:

-Synchronization Panels

-AC/DC Distribution Panels

-AC/DC Main Distribution Panels

-Fire extinguishing System

-Emergency lighting System

- Battery Group

-Air Conditioners

The equipment serves five sites in total: each site has 12 set 1.5MW Prime Generators, 12 sets 2MVA Transformers, 4 units medium voltage (33kV) Ehouses, 1 Synchronous Container, 1  Container, 2 NGR + DSU (Grounding Resistance and Separator Unit).

Analysis of the engines supplied: The Perkins 4012 46 TAG3A is part of the Perkins 4012 range. This is known for packing a real performance punch, with 12 cylinders and a 46-litre displacement providing power. The range’s diesel ElectropaK engines are supplied complete with radiator and air cleaner, or as engine only.

They provide 1000-1880 kVA generator output, with exceptional power-to-weight ratios. The compact design of the engines makes them easy to transport and install.Regarded as economic and durable, the engines have excellent power-to-weight ratios, as well as outstanding load acceptance and improved emissions. Commonality of components with other engines in the 4000 Series makes replacing parts or upgrading an easy process.

The Perkins 4000 Series family of 6, 8, 12 and 16 cylinder diesel engines was designed in advance of today’s uncompromising demands within the power generation industry and includes superior performance and reliability.

Turbocharged power: The 4012-46TAG3A ElectropaK is a turbocharged, air-to-air charge cooled, 12-cylinder diesel engine. The engines are offered with either Temperate or Tropical cooling packages (with or without fuel oil cooling). Their premium design and specification features provide economic and durable operation as well as exceptional power-to-weight ratio, improved serviceability, low gaseous emissions, overall performance and reliability essential to the power generation market.

The engine is notable as its four Individual valve per cylinder heads give optimised gas flows, whilst digitally governed unit fuel injectors ensure ultra-fine fuel atomisation and hence controlled rapid combustion, for efficiency and economy. According to Perkins the engine was developed and tested using latest engineering techniques. Its piston temperature are controlled by an advanced gallery jet cooling system. All engines can tolerate a wide range of temperatures without derate, says the manufacturer.

Ultimately the engine offers exceptional power-to-weight ratio and compact size for easier transportation & installation. It also has newly-designed radiator assemblies with corrosion-inhibiting powder coated finish; fewer pipe joints and easier access to reduce maintenance times. More information?
