ergen Engines has received an order for eight Bergen B35:40V20 gas engines to the national grid of Ukraine. This significant project, facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will strengthen Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, providing reliable electricity to residential and industrial areas as the country braces for winter. ❄️
Funded by the Norwegian government through the Nansen Programme, this initiative aims to support Ukraine’s energy sector amid the ongoing conflict and meet the energy needs of approximately 1.5 million people.
Norway's Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, comments:
“Russia’s war of aggression has destroyed large parts of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. It is crucial to ensure the Ukrainian population receives electricity this winter. Among other things, Bergen Engines has won a tender to supply power supply equipment. This is an important agreement and it’s very good that it’s now in place as we head toward a colder season with even greater needs.”
Over the course of 2022-23, about half of Ukraine’s power generation capacity was either occupied by Russian forces, destroyed or damaged, and approximately half of the large network substations have been damaged by missiles and drones.
