arlier this year METS ENERGY, assemblers and providers of diesel generators and power solutions, delivered 3 x 1.5MVA and 1 x 1MVA super silent generators (MP1500-L/SW MP1000-L/SW) to generate continuous power for a data centre in Baghdad, Iraq. The set canopies provide70 dbA @ 1m from all sides.
The gensets were powered by the following engines and altermators: Perkins 4008-TAG2A; and Perkins 4012-46TAG2A.
The powerful Perkins 4008TAG2A is a part of Perkins reliable and robust range. The 4008TAG2A is a 8-cylinder 3- litre engine. The 4008TAG2A is currently manufactured in Stafford, UK. The Perkins build list for this engine model begins DGBH.
The engine runs at a 50Hz configuration however it is still a very capable and all-round engine. The 4008TAG2A includes a turbocharger with an air-to-air charge cooler and requires 153 litres of oil for lubrication, 162 litres of coolant for the water cooling system and has a total displacement of 30.561L. The power output of the Perkins engine is 1321 horsepower (985 kWm) at 1500 RPM. The fuel consumption depends on its load. At 1500 rpm prime power it is has the following fuel consumption (percentage of prime power):
• At 50% it uses 111 litres/hr
• At 75% it uses 162 litres/hr
• At 100% it uses 215 litres/hr
• At standby power it uses 240 litres/hr
This Perkins engine has dimensions of 3852mm (151.7") Long, 2046mm (80.5") Wide and 2067mm (81.3") high. The cylinders have dimensions of 160mm for the bore and 190mm for the stroke. The (dry) mass of the engine is 4270kg (these measurements are for the temperate cooling, see spec sheet for tropical cooling dimensions). The rotation is anti-clockwise, as viewed from the fly wheel.
The 4012-46TAG2A ElectropaK is a newly developed turbocharged, air-to-air charge cooled, 12 cylinder diesel engine. Offered with either Temperate or Tropical cooling packages (with or without fuel oil cooling). Special features include: exceptional power to weight ratio and compact size for easier transportation and installation. There is a newly-designed radiator assemblies with corrosion-inhibiting powder-coated finish; fewer pipe joints and easier access to reduce maintenance times. This engine is designed to provide excellent service access for ease of maintenance. The engines are designed to comply with major international standards and feature low gaseous emissions which satisfy the requirements of 1/2 TA Luft (1986).
Alternators include:
- The Leroy Somer TAL049E - the largest alternator from Leroy Somer's TAL049 range. The robust and reliable alternator has been engineered to meet the demands of the prime and standby power applications in the commercial, industrial and telecom industries.
- The Leroy Somer LSA50.2 alternator is a reliable and efficient alternator from the LSA50.2 series. The alternator has a compact and rigid design which ensures that it can withstand the vibrations from the generator set as well as including an optimised cooling system.
