n 2023 Edina completed a major 10MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project - an engineered, system-integrated turnkey solution designed to support the grid infrastructure and accelerate further deployment of renewable generation assets onto the network. This comprises six hydrogen-ready MWM gas engines in an EPC project for an LFP liquid-cooled 10MW grid-scale BESS solution.
Edina, an on-site power generation solutions provider for hydrogen-ready Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants, standby power generation and battery energy storage systems first won this contract with UK developer ForePower for its system-integrated BESS solution back in 2022.
ForePower provides National Grid with the ability to stabilise the electricity network with its portfolio of assets. Funded by Nash Business Capital Ltd, the 10MW 1-hour duration BESS project in South Yorkshire, UK, provides a range of balancing services to the electricity grid to ensure power security, system flexibility and accelerate renewable energy integration.
Edina’s modular outdoor battery energy storage solution is fully integrated and prefabricated with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cell chemistry, liquid-cooled thermal management system, skid-mounted inverter systems, battery management system and UL certified fire detection and suppression systems.
Edina provided all the full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and system integration work in a project which included detailed design, engineering, project management and installation, plant commissioning and long-term plant maintenance.

Hugh Richmond, Edina CEO, said:

“This was our first battery storage development with ForePower, and we were delighted to be working with such an enthusiastic and forward-thinking company. This project has been a significant milestone for the evolution and growth of Edina, which was traditionally a gas engine supplier and developer but has now added another “string to its bow” by developing standalone and hybrid power solutions and full EPC contracts.”
Andrew Foreman, ForePower’s Founder and Projects Director, Steven Thorpe have jointly said: “It’s been an exciting time for the UK's energy mix and has proved a great the opportunity to work with Edina. Working with Edina on this project has helped to build our relationship and develop our current portfolio of assets.”

The project has allowed ForePower to access the Capacity Market, Fast Frequency Response, and other grid services markets.
