SMITH POWER PRODUCTS recently delivered two of three new DS500, 500kW mtu-Rolls-Royce Power Systems generator sets for a Colorado Springs-based water & waste treatment site. Each of the MTU 10V1600 DS500 diesel generator set is defined as follows: 500 kVA/50 Hz/Standby (Fuel-Optimized)/380 - 415V Reference MTU 10V1600 DS500 (450 kVA Fuel and Exhaust-Optimized).  Every generator set has been designed and manufactured in facilities certified to standards ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 and even comes with a Seismic certification (optional).  The DS500 has IBC certification, OSHPD pre-approval, Performance Assurance Certification (PAC). It has been tested to ISO 8528-5 for transient response and has verified product design, quality, and performance integrity. All engine systems are prototype and factory tested. The set's power rating accepts rated load in one step per NFPA 110 and permissible average power output during 24 hours of operation is approved up to 85%.

Each genset depends on a 10V1600 diesel engine, 17.5-Litre displacement, a Common rail fuel injection, 4-cycle and a resilient-mounted engine-generator with a complete range of accessories and a cooling system. There is an engine-driven fan, a brushless, rotating field generator (2/3 pitch windings) and a PMG (Permanent Magnet Generator) supply to regulator. The set has 300% short circuit capability, digital control panels, UL recognized, CSA certified, NFPA 110, a complete system metering and an LCD display.

The state-of-the-art mtu 10V1600G70F engine offers an industry-leading average load factor, low fuel consumption, with emissions optimizations available, high availability and reliability, an outstanding load acceptance and long maintenance intervals.  It features a 4P circuit breaker, an Island operation control panel, an integrated fuel tank, an industrial silencer (15 dB(A)), batteries & battery charger, a sound attenuated enclosure, fuel system accessories, a control panel & ATS and a range of additional electronical options.
