NativeWay has supplied an advanced 1,250 kVA diesel generator made by the leading genset manufacturer TEKSAN to Sri Lanka to provide backup power for one of the nation's water & sewage plants based in Kandy. Kandy is an important administrative and religious city and the capital of the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It is the second-largest city of the island and the capital of the Central Province of modern Sri Lanka. The National Hospital is based in Kandy: it is the second-largest medical institution in Sri Lanka, established and administered under the purview of the Ministry of Health, which remains a key hospital maintained by the Sri Lankan Government. The province itself has an area of 5,674 km2 and a population of 2,421,148, making it the second most populated province.

For the NativeWay and NWSDB project, the requirements were to supply and install TEKSAN generators to provide a consistent and reliable power supply for Sri Lanka's water infrastructure. This included ensuring the generators' operational efficiency, compliance with safety standards, and establishing a maintenance system for sustained performance to keep critical services uninterrupted.
At the core of Kandy's water infrastructure is NativeWay's installation of a 1250 kVA TEKSAN generator at the Greater Kandy Water treatment Plant (GKWTP). This is located at Pahalakondadeniya, Katugastota in Kandy - North region of the Central province. This treatment plant is operated under the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) of Sri Lanka. The catchment area of this water supply system includes the highly urbanized area in Kandy city. The raw water intake of GKWTP is near the solid waste dumping site of the Kandy city at Thekkawatta, which is downstream of the intake of GKWTP.
The TEKSAN container-type generator was selected for its capacity and reliability and operates at a sound level of 90 dB(A) at 1 metre, suitable for the environment of Sri Lanka's Central Highlands. It supports the treatment process from aeration to disinfection, ensuring the WTP maintains water quality to meet SLS 614 standards.
The TEKSAN generator is crucial for protecting the WTP against power disruptions which could affect the water supply to 400,000 people. With electric pumps maintaining water pressure, the generator's role is essential—any power outage could result in water loss. By providing a continuous power supply, the TEKSAN generator ensures the water system's integrity and supports the well-being of Kandy's residents, reflecting our commitment to infrastructure and community.
