337ft (115m) 2.5 MW wind turbine collapsed in Wales, UK, during strong winds linked to two 80 mph wind storms which struck the west of the country on 16th and 17th February, 2022. The turbine tower broke off about 60ft (18m) from its base. The structure had snapped in two and the blades were twisted out of shape and crushed in the fall. The turbine is one of 29 at the Pant-y-Wal wind farm, which overlooks the village. A spokeswoman for NORDEX, the manufacturer of the wind turbine, said that specialists were investigating the cause of the incident. The Pant y Wal wind farm is located 4kms to the north of the village of Glynogwr in Bridgend County Borough. The site is located on flat upland mountain plateau between the Cwm Ogwr Fawr to the west and Cwm Ogwr Fach to the east which flows through the settlement of Gilfach Goch.
