rupel has provided a high-power generator to support the Marlim Azul combined cycle power plant in Macae (Rio de Janeiro), Brazil. With a total capacity of 565 MW, the facility will feature a 301 MW gas turbine, a steam turbine, a boiler, cooling towers, a water treatment plant and a gas station. The plant will operate in local oil fields. GRUPEL's team has been part of the project since the design, engineering and production phases, and will also follow the installation, testing and start-up stages. The generator developed by Grupel will ensure the energy supply and can operate in parallel with the regular power grid. The equipment, installed in a 40''container, has 1667kVA of power and has a Mitsubishi engine and Leroy Somer alternator, two reference brands in which Grupel has full confidence. In addition, in the case of a special project, this generator to support a power plant has a wide variety of extras that allow it to ensure high levels of performance, efficiency and a total adaptation to the conditions of the installation site and the requirements of the application.
Special features of the installation include: the division of the container into 3 separate rooms; a fire system to ensure the safety of the equipment; fire resistance with polyurethane RF240; a fuel storage system with two tanks offering great autonomy (1500-litres each); an automatic control system for synchronising with the power grid; a communications system which meets international standard IEC61850; and system-wide soundproofing to noise level 85 dB(A) @ 1m.
